THANKFUL FOR OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS

What happens to items we can't sell:

We get plenty of useful donations that, for one reason or another, we may not be able to sell in the thrift store. As part of our partnership with Everly Seattle, we're doing everything we can to redistribute these unsold goods with a number of nonprofit groups that can put them to good use in our community.

Wearable, in-season clothes that may not sell well in-store due to minor things like style or wear are sorted into bags and picked up by several local nonprofits:

  • Bailey-Boushay House, which provides compassionate, highly-professional care for people with HIV/AIDS, many of which are also managing chemical dependencies, mental health issues and/or homelessness.

  • Community Lunch on Capitol Hill, who distribute hot nutritious meals, clothing and other critical services to those enduring homelessness and economic hardship.

  • The Women’s Housing Equality and Enhancement League (WHEEL), a non-hierarchical group of former and currently homeless women working to end homelessness for women in Seattle and King County.

Any food donations, some new or lightly used toiletries, and over-the-counter medical products are picked up and distributed by the Seattle Community Fridge, a mutual aid group ending food insecurity and food waste with food for all! We also have a publicly accessible collection box at our donation counter near the front entrance of the Capitol Hill store.

Overstock or unsold children's books are boxed up by our media department and periodically dropped off at Mary’s Place, a nonprofit ensuring that no child sleeps outside by centering equity and opportunity for women and families.

If you are a local organization who could benefit from our unsold donations, please reach out to info@magpiethriftseattle.com. We often have usable donations of all sorts including clothing, home goods, books, and lots more!

Business that help...

We wouldn't be here without the help of our amazing community partners; through their generosity we are able to supplement our inventory during slower donation months while giving our customers the best thrift finds Seattle has to offer. You may be surprised to learn that in addition to our everyday donors we also get regular donations from some of the city’s premier vintage and consignment stores, like Creature, Editor, Silver Platters, Anchor Chic, Easy Street Records, Cherry Consignment, Zelda Zonk, Crossroads Trading, and Red Light Vintage.
